The landmark lighthouse at 506 Old Bath Road remains, but this is no longer the Lighthouse Diner.

Owner Dana Cameron has opened his second Cameron’s Lobster House at this Wiscasset location, and wants people traveling U.S. Route 1 this summer to know that this is an entirely new operation. Cameron’s Lobster House, open since May 3, stands ready to serve the public with an updated and varied menu.

“I just want to stress the fact that this is new management,” Cameron said recently from his Brunswick restaurant. “Customers are happy that we’re here (in Wiscasset). They were very pleased to see us.”

Cameron, a Richmond resident who grew up in Freeport, has been in the seafood business for many years. He opened Cameron’s Lobster House on Old Bath Road in Brunswick in 2006, and is confident there’s plenty of room for another one in Wiscasset.

For one thing, Cameron’s offers a menu variety not seen in most seafood restaurants, many of which offer fried seafood only.

The lobster roll at Cameron’s — served sautéed in butter and hot or cold for $13.99 — is a staple, to be sure. But there’s much more, including home-baked beans either as a side or main dish with hot dogs.

And they offer their fried clams in both crumbs and batter.

“The grilled seafood is really popular,” Cameron said. “People love the grilled Cajun haddock basket. Oysters are huge here. Not too many people have oysters anymore.”

Cameron purchases all of his seafood from local companies, such as Plant’s Seafood of Bath and Cantrell’s of Topsham.

Cameron said that the Fourth of July weekend and the accompanying Bath Heritage Days are the busiest for his Brunswick restaurant, which features a drive-in service area. Business went down following the closing of Brunswick Naval Air Station, he said, but has crept back up since.

“We feature good food, fresh food, and we changed the menu a little bit,” he said. “We added breakfast and we’re grilling more now.”

On a U.S. 1 corridor that is busy during the summer months, Cameron’s is ready for the crowd that jams Wiscasset every day.

“I think there’s plenty of room for us,” Cameron said.

Both Cameron’s locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
