BRUNSWICK — Arthur Fink and Deb Nelson are offering a “Skillbuilder” workshop on April 11 to help nonprofit staff identify and tell the stories that can create engagement, inspire donations, generate other support, and produce needed change.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University in Brunswick. The program is sponsored by the Maine Association of Nonprofits, and more details are available at www.nonprofitmaine.org/skillbuilders. asp.

The program will include: Guidelines for identifying story “nuggets” that convey much in a few words; opportunities to practice listening to your audience, as you tell a story; strategic planning exercises to identify themes and values you want to communicate; comparison of storytelling techniques for written word, images, video and live discussion; and ideas for how to use one story in many ways (“re-purposing”).

Fink is a consultant to nonprofit boards, a coach dealing with communication, management, and creativity, and a documentary photographer well known for his dance images. Nelson, principal of Deb Nelson Consulting, helps those who do good work build their communities through creative storytelling.
