BRUNSWICK — Greater Brunswick PeaceWorks recently announced that Amanda Similien, owner of Maine Street Events, LLC, will join the Peace Fair planning team in the role of fair coordinator.
Aug. 3 is the date set for the 9th annual Peace Fair to be held on the Brunswick Mall. The fair, a family friendly event, looks at the many aspects of the new culture of peace developing around the world.
This year’s fair theme, “The Children Ask the World of Us,” encourages participants to explore the following questions: How shall we feed the children? How shall we protect the Earth for them? How shall we teach them? How shall we keep them safe from war and violence?
Similien’s background includes being a Peace Corps volunteer in Haiti, a field geologist for the Maine Geological Survey and a community outreach coordinator for the Maine Rural Water Association. As owner and manager of Maine Street Events, she helped organize popular celebrations like the Taste of Brunswick, the Down Easter expansion event and the Outdoor Arts Festival.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
