BRUNSWICK — Buddy Up Animal Society of Brunswick has joined other animal welfare organizations in the area that list their homeless pets on Petfinder.com, the oldest and largest database of adoptable animals on the Internet.
According to a news release, the site currently has more than 359,000 homeless pets listed, and it is updated continuously.
More than 13,500 animal welfare organizations in the U.S., Canada and other countries post their pets on the site. Buddy Up Animal Society pets may be viewed at www.petfinder.com/shelters/ ME126.html.
A potential adopter enters search criteria for the kind of pet he or she wants and a list is returned that ranks the pets in proximity to the ZIP code entered. Adoptions are handled by the animal placement group where the pet is housed, and each group has its own policies.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
