“Portland Stage is creating an enchanting new Mainstage holiday production of ‘The Snow Queen,’ the beloved fairy tale of devotion, bravery and the triumph of love,” a release from the theater company states. “When Gerda’s best friend Kai is bewitched and imprisoned by the mysterious
Snow Queen, the young girl embarks on a journey to the land of winter to save him. With magical characters from crows to rosebushes to reindeer, Andersen’s story has warmed the hearts of children and adults around the world for almost 200 years.”
Priscilla Buckley plays the Snow Queen. Ian Carlsen portrays Kai, and Lauren Orkus plays Gerda.
The play also features an ensemble cast featuring Portland area students, direction and set design by Anita Stewart, and lighting by Bryon Winn.
Ticket prices for adults range from $30 to $40. All children’s tickets cost $12. Three of the 23 scheduled performances have already sold out. For tickets, call 774-0456 or go online to www.portlandstage.org.
