A pastel pink kitchen is just one of many over-the-top feminine touches in Kirstie Alley’s oceanfront estate in Maine, which the actress-turned-reality-TV star has placed on the market for $2.35 million.
Listed with Sotheby’s International Realty, the summer home on the Waldo County island of Islesboro comes with 3,140 square feet of living space and 16 acres of land. The house is on West Bay Road near the Islesboro Airport.
The house was built in 1993. Alley bought it in April 2003 from Robert Congdon for $1.15 million. The town values the property at $1.19 million, and property taxes are $13,000 per year.
Accessible by ferry, private boat or airplane, the island serves as a summer enclave to a number of celebrities and prominent individuals. Among the island’s best-known homeowners are actor John Travolta and his actress wife, Kelly Preston.
Alley’s home is dominated by a country cottage decorating scheme overflowing with pale pinks, mint greens and floral fabrics. It has five bedrooms and 4½ baths.
According to published reports, Alley worked for an interior design firm in her hometown of Wichita, Kan., before her Hollywood career took off.
Janet Anderson, Islesboro town clerk, said she’s heard that the actress decorated the home herself.
Alley gained fame in her role on the TV show “Cheers” in the late 1980s and early 1990s, for which she earned an Emmy. She also starred in the TV show “Veronica’s Closet” and the “Look Who’s Talking” series of movies. In May, Alley and dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy took second place on “Dancing with the Stars.”
In 1998, when Alley was in the process of divorcing actor Parker Stevenson, she failed in her legal bid to have Maine courts decide how the couple’s property and child custody would be divided. The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that California had jurisdiction. At the time, Alley not only paid taxes in Maine, but was a registered Maine voter and held a Maine driver’s license.
California divorce laws require all of a couple’s assets to be split equally, but Maine laws require that only assets accumulated during the marriage be divided.
Jackie Hall, the Sotheby’s agent handling the listing, has received numerous calls from the media about the home.
However, Hall said, “I’m not at liberty to give you any information.”
