HARTFORD, Conn. – Mark Voakes scored the lone goal for the Portland Pirates in a 3-1 loss to the Connecticut Whale in Game 3 of a best-of-seven Atlantic Division semifinal series Sunday at the XL Center.
Voakes’ goal tied the game at 1-1 with 53 seconds left in the first, but the Whale responded with goals from Derek Couture and John Mitchell in the second and third periods.
With his team ahead 3-1, Connecticut goalie Dov Grumet-Morris stopped Portland’s Mark Parrish on a penalty shot with 5:38 left in the game
Grumet-Morris made 29 saves in goal for the Whale. David Leggio made 19 saves in goal for the Pirates.
Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the XL Center in Hartford.
