Postseason fun continued in some sports, while another nears the end of its regular season. Here’s a glimpse:

Boys’ hockey

South Portland’s boys’ hockey team continues to ride high. The Red Riots improved to 12-3 and stretched their winning streak to 11 games after recent victories over Sanford (11-1) and Poland/Gray-New Gloucester (3-0). South Portland (fourth in the latest Western Class A Heal Points standings) was home with Fryeburg Thursday, hosts top contender Falmouth Saturday and closes the regular season Monday at home versus Marshwood.

Scarborough defeated visiting Portland 5-2, then fell to 6-8-2 after a 4-1 home loss to defending state champion Waterville Saturday. The Red Storm (sixth in the latest Heals) appear playoff-bound. They were at rival Thornton Academy Wednesday and finish the regular season at home against top Eastern A power Lewiston Saturday, as coach Norm Gagne goes up against his old team.

In Western B, Cape Elizabeth has some work to do to make the playoffs and is running out of time. Last Thursday, the Capers erupted for four third period goals to earn a big 5-3 home win over Yarmouth, but Saturday, they suffered a painful 9-2 loss at York to drop to 7-9.

“We’re trying to claw our way into the playoffs,” said coach Jason Tremblay. “We still hold our own destiny. There are still a lot of points on the table. If we can get in, I think we can do some damage.”

Cape Elizabeth (fifth in Western B, only the top four make the playoffs) faced a must-win game at Leavitt Wednesday, then closes at home against Camden in another pivotal contest Saturday.

Swimming

The Class A swimming and diving state championships are Monday (boys) and Tuesday (girls) at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

Skiing

Cape Elizabeth took part in the Western Maine Conference Nordic skiing championship meet last week at Stark’s Hill. In the freestyle, Emily Attwood was the top female, finishing the 4.91-kilometer course in 13 minutes, 31 seconds. As a team, the Capers were second to Yarmouth. In the classic, Skyler Dunfey came in fifth (17:20) and Cape Elizabeth finished third behind Yarmouth and Falmouth. Overall, the Capers were second.

On the boys’ side, in the freestyle, Cape Elizabeth came in sixth with 91 points. Bobby Yokobaskas was fifth individually (12:24). James Yokobaskas came in sixth (12:38). In the classic, Bobby Yokobaskas movaed up to third (13:43) and the Capers came in sixth as a team. Combined, Cape Elizabeth wound up seventh.

The Class B state championship meet is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Saddleback and Rangeley Lakes Trail Center.

Wrestling

Scarborough’s wrestling team wound up eighth at the Western A regional meet Saturday at Deering High. The Red Storm had 55 points. Noble was first with 210. Michael Cyr reached the final of the 189-pound division, but lost a decision to Kennebunk’s Richard Gorton. Scott Merrill won the final of the consolation round, beating Sanford’s Jose Noyola, 11-4. Scarborough will take part in the state meet Saturday at Noble.

Cheering

The Scarborough cheer team competed in the Class A championships last weekend in Augusta. The Red Storm posted 152.8 points and came in fourth behind champion Biddeford, Lewiston and Bangor.
